Château de Villeneuve-Lembron

Exceptional painted decors.

The Château de Villeneuve-Lembron, built in the late 15th century for Rigault d’Aureille, is a fine example of stately residences of the early Renaissance. It is home to a remarkable collection of murals from the early 16th century that bring medieval imaginations to life. During the second half of the 16th century, the walls were decorated with superb grotesques. Then in the 17th century, the ceilings, wood panelling and fireplaces were richly painted. Amongst other things, the château holds some very beautiful Aubusson tapestries depicting the stories of Alexander the Great and Godfrey of Bouillon. You can also find some magnificent frescoes from the 16th century in the former stables.

Following a major campaign of restoration, the castle reopened in spring 2016!
