Cathédrale de Besançon et son horloge astronomique

Actuation of the automata on each tour.

Built between 1858 and 1860 by Auguste Lucien Vérité, the astronomical clock has a precise and complex mechanism consisting of over 30,000 parts and 11 movements. Worked by weights, some operate chimes and automata. The 57 faces provide a lot of information: calendars, the tides in 8 ports, eclipses… Visitors can look all around the clock and see its interior mechanisms.

New in 2016 : the treasure of the cathedral will be open to visitors and a documentary film on the steeple of the cathedral will be offered.

Opening : 9.50 à 12.30 am & 1.50 à 5.30 pm

from April 1st to September 30th: every day except Tuesdays
from October 1st to March 31st: every day except Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Tours at 9.50, 10.50 and 11.50 a.m. 1.50 pm and 2.50, 3.50 pm

Closing days

January, May 1st, November 1st and 11th, December 25th.
