FAQ

What are the closing dates of the national monuments?

Most of the monuments and sites managed by the Centre des Monuments Nationaux are open 360 days a year. National monuments only close on 1 January, 1 May, 1 and 11 November, and 25 December. This means you can offer tours of our sites all year round.

Is there a fee for guided tours?

There are several types of tours at national monuments:

Self-guided tours: you will be given a leaflet to follow the tour itinerary yourself.

Guided tour: this presents the main features of the site or monument. It is offered at no extra charge to the admission fee. Reservation is compulsory for groups.

Tour-lecture: in French or a foreign language, this is led by a Centre des Monuments Nationaux approved guide. Tour-lectures last 90 minutes on average, so that you can learn about the site or monument in detail. The rate for tour-lectures is a fixed rate for groups, on top of the admission fee. In some monuments, tours are led by a Tourist Office guide.

Audioguide tour: some monuments have audioguides that you can hire to follow the tour itinerary independently. The hire charge is on top of the admission fee.

How do I pay for a group tour at a national monument?

The group and tourism professionals rate applies to:

- groups of 20 or more people, regardless of who organises the tour

- groups of any number, when accompanied by a tourism professional (please show proof of status from the competent authority at the monument's ticket office).

Payment may be made:

- on site, the day of the tour, either in cash, or by cheque made payable to the "Régisseur des recettes", and in some monuments by bank card;

- in advance: tourism professionals can purchase tickets in advance, at group and tourism professionals rate;

- by purchase order: a purchase order agreement must be drawn up in advance.
