The Château d’Azay-le-Rideau, built in the heart of the Touraine region under the reign of François I, is a charming Renaissance residence. A masterpiece of 16th century architecture, it is built on an island shaped by the Indre river and surrounded by romantic 19th century grounds. The chateau contains prestigious historical decors tracing the course of four centuries of history, and sumptuous collections of objects, tapestries and furniture.
Not to be missed:
- Ground floor: the restored décor and atmosphere recreate the château as it was in the 19th century
- 1st floor: presentation of the Renaissance in a room with walls lined with plaited rushes, and in the Great Hall
- Access to the attic and the 16th century framework
- The Pressoir, welcomes an interpretation space open to all visitors
- Romantic grounds extending over 8 hectares offering numerous views of the château and its reflecting pools
