Romanesque cloister and art collection.
Attached to the northern end of the cathedral, the 12th-century cloisters are largely Romanesque. This space was reserved for the cathedral’s canons, or secular clergy. It displays a wide variety of capitals, some with pictorial imagery, allowing us to see how styles have changed. Its 12th-century gate is a rare example of Romanesque ironwork.
A 13th-century fresco in the chapter room depicts the crucifixion. There is also a Museum of Religious Art in the machicolation building which has been redesigned to house the recent arrival of an important collection of embroidered liturgical textiles.
